High School News
April 2018 Newsletter
God continues to do great things at PCS! We were so blessed Easter week as Worship Leadership students prepared a special Easter Chapel. What a blessing to hear the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection as it was read from Scripture and sung in song! It was a great lead-in to our Good Friday and Easter celebrations last weekend. I trust you had a great Spring Break and pray God’s best for your family as we finish the rest of the year.
Below are a couple of updates. Thanks for allowing us to serve you and your students.
Varsity Boys Basketball
Coach Jeremy Niestadt has been a part of our varsity boys basketball coaching staff for the last several years, leading our boys program as head coach to an increased number of wins each year. We are grateful for his sacrifice, dedication, knowledge, and contribution to PCS Athletics. Coach Niestadt will not be returning next year. Matt Heid and Jason Mackey, who served this past year as assistant coaches, will continue their involvement in varsity boys basketball, including scheduling summer leagues and games until a head coach has been named.
We have begun the search process for a new varsity boys’ basketball coach. Interested candidates are invited to complete the initial online application here and may direct any questions to PCSAthletics@PortlandChristian.org. Applications will be received through Sunday, April 15, and candidates will be contacted regarding interviews next week. Thank you for supporting athletics at PCS and please keep this process in your prayers.
Parent Information Night
Our next Parent Information Night (P.I.N.) will be tomorrow night and will focus on “Next Steps for Student Success.” We will have different sessions for students entering 7th grade, 8th grade, 9th grade, 10th-12th grade, and one for those graduating this year. Come and learn how to make the next step for your student at PCS a great one! We will begin with a fellowship dinner at 5:30pm provided by the PTF ($5.00 suggested donation) and conclude by 7:30pm.
FREE Parenting Seminar
Celebrate Calm founder Kirk Martin and his son, Casey, have helped over 400,000 parents, teachers and students learn how to control their emotions and attitudes. Their strategies are concrete, practical and work in everyday situations whether your child is a two or twenty-two. USA Today, Parade Magazine and countless TV and Radio shows have relied on Kirk’s expertise to stop defiance, power struggles and sibling fights. PCS will be hosting a seminar by the Martins on Wednesday, April 18, 7:00-9:00pm. See the attached fly for more information. All are welcome to attend and no registration is needed.
For His glory,

By clipping and saving the Box Top Clips from products with the Box Tops For Education logo on it, you can help PCS purchase materials and equipment to enhance your child’s education. (Elementary students also earn school passes for every 30 pts., so be sure to include your child’s name and grade)
Important PCLS Information
Label, label, label! Please make sure that your child’s belongings – backpack, lunch box, water bottle, and sweaters/jackets – are labeled with your child’s name or initials.
With cooler weather approaching, it’s a good idea to go ahead and keep a light sweater or jacket in your child’s backpack.
We are enjoying our outdoor time on the playground! To prevent injuries, please send your child to school in tennis shoes every day. Sandals and Crocs are cute but tend to get mulch in them on the playground.
Car line – morning car line begins at 7:40 and runs until 8:05. During this time, teachers will be outside to help assist your child out of the car and into the building. Parents, for the safety of our teachers and your children, we ask that your preschooler be on the passenger side of the car so that they will be safe from vehicles passing on the opposite side. Thank you!
Families of half day students can utilize our midday car line for pick up as well beginning at 11:30. You may pull up in front of the Little School and form a line. Teachers and staff will escort your child to your car and assist them with getting in.
Our email address is – email@example.com. This email will be checked daily by the Little School administration. Please send any questions that are not classroom specific to this address, including questions regarding billing, schedules, illnesses and other general questions.
