ABOUT

OUR SCHOOL

We provide an excellent academic program saturated with love for God and all people. Portland Christian works to establish and maintain an atmosphere that encourages growth in personal faith in Christ and the building of Christian character.

A Message from Our Next Head of School

I am delighted to have been offered the gracious invitation to serve as the next Head of School of this great institution. Words are inadequate to express my gratitude, enthusiasm, and sheer joy for this opportunity. I am humbled to follow dedicated leaders like Earl Mullins Sr., Jodell Seay, and the other godly men and women who have gone before me in this role.

As we enter our 100th year of partnering with families in Christian education, we will continue to provide high quality, rigorous educational opportunities in a safe, secure, fun, and friendly learning environment. At Portland Christian, each student is nurtured in a distinctively Christian worldview. Specifically, loving God, loving people, and living our lives differently is at the core of our academic program.

This year’s theme is, “Honoring our past while embracing our future.” There is much to celebrate in Portland’s rich history. And there is much to look forward to as we launch the next 100 years. There is great work ahead of us, and we need all of you to fulfill God’s mission for our school.

Currently, Portland is experiencing record growth in enrollment, and we will occupy our newly constructed high school building this fall. We recently dedicated our first outdoor athletic facility with our baseball field, and our newly acquired preschool facility is rapidly growing and will soon be at capacity. We are thankful, and sometimes in awe, of how God is blessing our school.

Growth brings about new opportunities and exciting challenges. My leadership team needs the collective wisdom and resources of our school community. Please pray for me, our Board, my leadership team, and our faculty. Pray that God will instill in us the creativity, boldness, patience, and wisdom required to lead and steward well.

Finally, thank you for your warm welcome. I look forward to serving you, your children, your grandchildren, and your nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. My early interactions with stakeholders have been pleasant and encouraging. I am excited to soon have my boots on the ground to meet with many more of you as part of my First 100 Day Plan.

Love God, Love People, Live Differently,

Mr. LeSage

LOVE

G O D

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength .”

MARK 12:30

God loved us first, and that’s why we love Him. God taught us how to love.
– I John 4:19

God showed us His love through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross.
– Romans 5:8.

LOVE

P E O P L E

“The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.

Mark 12:31

As we are loved by Him, we are called to love others.

Our outward expression of love for the people in our lives and community communicates God’s love to the world.

LIVE

D I F F E R E N T L Y

“Be holy, because I am holy.” – GOD

I Peter 1:16

Jesus is our model for living. Christians are not perfect, but we are supposed to be different. The word “holy” here means “other” or “different.” Jesus lived his life differently; He served others.

We seek to be a reflection of Jesus’ character. – John 17:13-19.

OUR

MISSION

Since 1924, Portland Christian School has partnered with families and the local community to provide a rigorous, Christ-centered, family-friendly learning environment grounded in the truths of God’s Word.

OUR SCHOOL

PHILOSOPHY

Matthew 22:37 says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Loving God is central to Portland Christian’s mission. We strive to train students to love God and view life through a Biblical worldview.

We strive to provide an excellent academic program saturated with love for God and all people. We seek to provide practical, real-world opportunities for students to love and serve others.

We promote an atmosphere that encourages a daily, personal, passionate relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. We aspire to graduate students that model transformed lives and exhibit godly character and Christ-like attitudes and actions.

Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

We recognize that all truth is God’s truth. Our school is set apart for God because we present and nurture a distinctively biblical worldview within our curriculum and management systems. In addition to excellent academic preparation, Portland Christian prepares students for “works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up.”  Ephesians 4:12

OUR

VISION

Our vision is to produce culture changers for Christ. We aspire to graduate students who love God, love people, and live their lives in ways that measurably, and sometimes radically, impact their communities and the world for the cause of Christ.

STATEMENT OF

FAITH

We believe the Bible to be the inspired and only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God. (II Timothy 3:15, II Peter 1:21)

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30)

We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:33); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35); His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 7:26); His miracles (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (I Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:25, I Corinthians 15:4); His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); His personal return in power and glory. (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11)

We believe that all people sin and can be saved only by God’s grace through faith in Christ crucified and raised from the dead (Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:8-9, I Corinthians 15:1-5), that such are justified freely through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24, Ephesians 1:7), that unless one is born again, of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God (John 3:3-7), that repentance is an essential part of true faith (Mark 1:15, Luke 13:3-5, Acts 20:21), that immersion in water is God’s intended outward way of demonstrating one’s inward faith and repentance and the union with Christ that results (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:1-4).

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, they that are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).

We believe God created the sacrament of marriage to be the union of one man and one woman and is a reflection of Christ’s relationship to his church (Ephesians 5:25-27). Therefore, God’s design is for sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

We believe that God wonderfully created each person as distinctly male or female. These two distinct, complimentary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:27).

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9,   I Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28).

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life (Romans 8:13-14,   I Corinthians 3:16, I Corinthians 6:19-20, Ephesians 4:30, Ephesians 5:18).

We believe that Christians’ top priorities are the Great Commandment and the Great Commission: that we should seek for ourselves and our students that we love the Lord with all our being, and love our neighbor as ourselves, and seek to make disciples of the Lord Jesus in all the world (Matthew 22:36-40, Matthew 28:18-20).
